Mary Sheila Cornelius, age eighty-one, sadly passed away on September 28, 2024 from cancer. Born on May 15, 1943 in Peabody, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of P. Frank Tully and Mary Frances Morris. Sheila spent her early childhood in Youngstown, Ohio and then returned to Massachusetts with her mother several years after her father died. She is a graduate of Marblehead High School.
In her twenties, Sheila moved to Long Island, where she spent many years in the teaching profession, first as an aide working with developmentally disabled children and then as an ENL teacher in various schools in Queens and Long Island. She was a devoted teacher who touched the lives of many students. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Adelphi University and a Masters in Linguistics from Queens College.
Despite being a world traveler, Sheila’s favorite place was home, which was cozy and full of love. She had a green thumb and was a wonderful cook; nobody made better soup. An enthusiastic game-player throughout her life, she enjoyed canasta, mahjong and Celebrity in her later years. As an avid reader and BritBox-watcher, she always had recommendations for friends and family. Lastly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and talking to them about their lives.
Sheila is survived by Robert, her husband of fifty-three years, her three children, Laura, Michael and Daniel, and her four grandchildren, Joshua, Grace, Jane, and Ella.
