Ricky J. Vitali, of Long Beach, New York, passed away on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and devotion to his family and community.
Born and raised in Seaford, Ricky was the beloved son of Mario and Rhoda Vitali and the cherished brother of Micheal Vitali. A proud graduate of Seaford High School Class of 1983, Ricky went on to attend St. John’s University, where he studied education before answering his calling to law enforcement.
In July of 1987, at just 22 years old, Ricky was accepted into the New York City Police Department Police Academy, proudly becoming a second-generation police officer. He began his distinguished career in the 105 Precinct, serving in patrol before earning positions in both the Street Narcotics and Anti-Crime Units. Known for his commitment, courage, and leadership, Ricky dedicated himself fully to protecting the people of New York City.
In 2000, Ricky transferred to the 102 Precinct, where he served during the tragic events of , and participated in the recovery efforts that followed. His strength and unwavering sense of duty during one of the nation’s darkest times reflected the character and integrity he carried throughout his life and career.
In 2002, Ricky brought his experience and passion for mentoring to the Police Academy, where he helped shape and inspire generations of law enforcement officers. In 2004, he became a union delegate, continuing to advocate for and support his fellow officers with the same loyalty and dedication that defined his career. Over the course of an extraordinary 39-year career, Ricky earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, students, friends, and the community he so proudly served.
Above all else, Ricky’s greatest pride was his family. While building a remarkable career, he was also a devoted father to his three children, John, Mary, and Ricky. In 2018, he experienced one of life’s greatest joys when he became a grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Paige, who brought endless happiness to his life.
Ricky J. Vitali will be remembered for his strength, compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to both his family and his profession. His impact will live on through the many lives he touched, the officers he mentored, and the family he loved so deeply.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28th 4-8 PM 

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 29th 9:30 AM 

St. William the Abbot RC Church, Seaford, NY

The Funeral Mass will be live streamed and can be viewed at www.stwilliam.org 

Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY
