Mary D. Carey

CAREY - Mary (nee DiCroce), died peacefully on February 4, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 87. She is survived by her husband, Thomas, Sr., her children Mary Alice Kohs (Daniel) and Thomas Carey (Judy) and her two grandchildren, Christina Carey and Ian Kohs. Mary graduated with honors from Lawrence High School and was listed in Who’s Who of American Colleges while at SUNY New Paltz. She taught school in England and Spain for the children of the US Air Force servicemen stationed there. Mary had a 32 year career as an educator and assistant principal in the Freeport School System. After raising her family in Baldwin, she retired to Hudson , FL in 1982 where she spent more than 20 years enjoying family and friends before moving back to Plainview . Reposing today 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd. , Seaford (2 Traffic Lights East of Rte. 135). Mass of Christian burial Wednesday 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Massapequa . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to the Alzheimers Association at alz.org.
