Martha L. Porter

Martha Lee Porter (nee Shiver) formally of Connersville, IN and Owensboro, KY passed away
peacefully at home in her sleep on June 9, 2022 at age 86.
Martha was born August 23, 1935 in Daviss County, KY to Mary Ruth (Shockly) Shiver and
Robert Willard Shiver. She graduated from Owensboro High school in 1954 and after graduating
from Bethel College in 1956 she attended Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. She moved
to Indiana after getting married in 1962 and raised her children there. In 2012 she followed her
girls to the east coast and lived out her days between North Wildwood, NJ, Seaford, NY and
Levittown, NY with her daughters. She was creative and encouraged creativity in her
grandchildren fostering a love for musicals, reading, writing and even taught her granddaughter
to sew. She will be best remembered for her kind heart and patient way.
She is survived by her daughters Melinda Porter (wife Lea Porter), Susan Biggs (partner Mark
Milnazik), grandchildren Roxanne Biggs, Geddy Biggs, and Joe Tannenbaum and great grandson
Peart Biggs as well as many extended family including nieces, nephews and friends that became
family, all who she loved and adored with all her heart.
Martha was a beloved mother, mother figure, grandmother, aunt, and friend and will be deeply
missed and remembered fondly. Per her wishes there will be no formal funeral service and
interment will be private. To honor her, please pay your blessings forward with an act of
kindness to a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger. In a harsh world, be patient and kind in her
memory.
