MIGNANO-Lois M. (Eichorn) Dalton Mignano passed away on February 21, 2017 in Virginia Beach at the age of 89 after a long struggle with COPD. Born in Queens, NY, she was predeceased by her loving husbands, Robert L. Dalton (1953) and Frank A. Mignano Jr. (1970) and her sister, Carole Eichorn Zimmer. Lois was a long- time resident of Seaford, NY where Frank was the original owner of Seaford Pines Pharmacy. Having lost both of her husbands at an early age, Lois single- handedly raised her six children. She was the loving mother of Kristine Dalton Christensen (Norman), Susan Dalton Fratus, Mariann Mignano Gannon (Shawn), Michele Mignano, Frank III (Diane) and Michael (Jennifer). When her children were grown, she took a job she loved at the Seaford Public library where she worked until her retirement in 2005. She was very proud of passing her civil service exam at the age of 65. Lois was an active parishioner of St. William the Abbot in Seaford for more than 50 years, where all her children attended elementary school and where she served as editor of the church bulletin, parish bazaar chairman and Eucharistic Minister. She attended daily mass there often for the strength she needed and the comfort it gave her. In 2006 with her children scattered, she moved to Virginia Beach to be near her daughter, Mariann, and her beloved ocean, the place where she was most at peace. The family made her home there a frequent vacation spot. Lois was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she made many friends and was a fixture at the 5:30 PM Mass on Saturdays. She was a great cook, and she passed that talent, along with her unwavering faith, on to her children. Her sharp wit, her strength and her wisdom will be missed. In addition to her six children, Lois is survived by her brother, Ronald Eichorn (Barbara) and 15 grandchildren. A special thank you to all who cared for her, especially her health care aide, Angela, and all her hospice nurses. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Family, 1279 N. Great Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, Va. at 4PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. A memorial visitation will be held at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY (2 Traffic Lts. East of Rte. 135) on Friday, March 10 from 5PM - 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. William the Abbot Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., Seaford, NY on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 9:15 AM followed by interment at Holy Rood Catholic Cemetery in Westbury. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
