Kathryn "Kit" Kirby, 74, of Foxfire Village, NC, and formerly, New York, passed peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 7th in North Carolina. Born in Freeport, NY, August 17, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Audrey (Boller) Cunningham. Kit was raised on Long Island and after high school graduation, she attended SUNY Oneonta and Adelphi University. During the summers, she worked at a concession stand at Jones Beach, where she met Robert "Bob" Kirby. The two married on November 19, 1966. The couple would move to Panama and California before returning to New York. Kit worked as a Bank Teller and Manager for many years before moving to Foxfire Village in 2007. After her retirement from banking, she got a job working for Belk and later for Kohl's Department Stores. Kit was known for her joyful laugh and beautiful smile.
Kit was the loving wife of Robert "Bob" Kirby. She was the mother of Karen Kirby, Jill Supinsky (Gregg), and Mary O'Malley (Derek). She is survived by her 5 grandchildren: Jack and Grace Supinsky, and Declan, Ryan, and Molly O'Malley. Kit was the sister of John, Steven, Gary, Joel and Brian Cunningham, and the late Glenn Cunningham.
Reposing Thursday, February 13, 2020, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY (2 Traffic Lts East of Rte. 135). A memorial mass will be held Friday, February 14, 2020, 10:00 AM, at St. Frances De Chantal RC Church in Wantagh, NY. Inurnment will follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
