John “The Rock” Rocco Laddomada died of a heart attack in his Seaford home Monday afternoon, just two months after his 75th birthday. First-born son to Peter Armand Laddomada and Veronica Manzione, John was born in Brooklyn on August 16, 1950. As a boy, John attended St. Catherine of Alexandria School in Borough Park, down the street from his family’s three-story walk-up. He went on to Xavarian High School, where he not only excelled in his studies, but also enjoyed time spent in Chess Club and Glee Club. His love of mathematics led him to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. In 1971, he was hired at the prestigious New York Telephone Company as a Buildings Engineer for Major Projects and then a Revenues Supervisor. His position shifted in 1982, when NYNEX took over. For the next 15 years, John worked as a Director of Affiliate Interests, where he regulated interface with NYPSC and the FCC, while also specializing in Corporate Allocations and Methodology. Feeling unfulfilled in the changing corporate landscape, John found himself working nights toward a Master’s of Education degree after helping his own children with their course studies. After graduating, he seamlessly moved into a teaching position at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, Queens, where he taught math for seven years. John eventually moved on to Chaminade High School, where his eldest son, John, went to school. His grandsons Nicholas, Michael, and Alessandro also went on to attend Chaminade. John fervently enjoyed teaching math, and made it his mission to tutor anyone who needed it, including his children and grandchildren. He was an extremely patient and gifted instructor. His other passions included golf and travel, and he often combined the two when he traveled with Jeanne, his beloved wife of forty-seven years, and his five children: John, Jeannine, Kristine, Mary, and Peter. In retirement, he set a goal to golf in all fifty states across the United States of America; he planned to celebrate his final course at Rehoboth Beach, DE with his family in the spring. Off the course, you would likely find John with some or all of his five children and ten grandchildren, or at St. William’s Parish, where he was an active member of several groups, including Nocturnal Adoration and Eucharistic Ministry. John’s faith carried him through challenging times, first with the death of his first daughter, Jennifer, followed by the passing of his younger sister, Roseann Abitante, and the devastating loss of Jeanne to cancer in 2018. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, his younger brother, Peter Anthony Laddomada, his goddaughter, Nicole Laddomada and niece, Victoria Laddomada. John was a constant presence in so many lives, and his dedication and support will greatly be missed by all. Services were held for Mr. Laddomada in Seaford at Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home on Friday, October 20th, followed by a Christian Mass at St. William the Abbot Church the following day. A Private Disposition is scheduled for a later date at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
