Joan Lohr passed away peacefully on June 2ndat the Dominican Village Assisted Living in Amityville. She was born on September 28, 1930 in New York City to Lillian and John Sweeney. After her marriage to her dear husband, Cliff, the couple moved to Seaford, New York where they raised their son, Robert.
Joan was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and beloved aunt. After her husband’s retirement, they traveled throughout the United States. Joan enjoyed her time, especially her card games, with her friends whom she always referred to as “the girls”. She took tremendous pride in the beauty of her home.
While living in Seaford, Joan was a communicant at St. William the Abbott Church. She had a profound devotion to her Catholic faith. It was a great source of comfort and strength.
Joan was predeceased by her seven siblings and remained lovingly involved in the lives of her extensive family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Joan was always present at holiday dinners, birthday celebrations, and other family events. She bridged the connection between her generation and the next generations. Her beauty, elegance, humor, generosity, strong faith, and work ethic were constant reminders of the values instilled in all of us.
One of Joan’s more memorable attributes was her caring and giving nature. She was deeply involved in the care of family members and friends during times of illness. Her steadfast support during these challenging times was invaluable.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, Clifford. They were blessed with a beautiful marriage lasting fifty-five years. She is also predeceased by her son, Kenneth. Joan is survived by her loving son, Robert.
