On Sunday, September 27, 2020, Hugh Patrick Blisard, loving husband, father of three children, and Pop Pop to nine grandchildren passed away at the age of 73. Hugh was born on February 20, 1947 in Philadelphia PA to Hugh and Anna Blisard. He grew up in Havertown, the oldest of six children. Upon graduation from Monsignor Bonner Catholic High School, he attended and graduated from Hofstra University, where he met his wife, Marge. They raised three children, Hugh Brian, John Patrick, and Meaghan Elizabeth.
Hugh’s dedication to his family, passion for coaching and sharing his love for sports were only rivaled by his kindness, generosity, good humor and ever present smile. He co-founded the Pot Belly Pub in West Hempstead, coached football at St. Paul’s High School, Hofstra University, and St. John’s University. Hugh was president of St. Rose of Lima's CYO program for many years and later, was active in running the youth program at Our Lady of Lourdes. He volunteered his time to and coached his children in the CYO, Massapequa Mustangs Youth Football, and Massapequa Coast Little League.
Hugh was preceded in death by his father, Hugh, his mother, Anna, and his father-in-law, John. He is survived by his wife Marge, his three children, Brian (Natalie) , John (Ann) and Meaghan (Ed), his nine grandchildren, Matthew, Isabel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Madeline, Maxwell, Sean, Ryan, and Maryn, his mother-in-law Margaret, his five siblings and two brother-in-laws, Tom (Marjorie), Frankie (Kate), Anmer, Mary Ann, John (Agnes), Rob (Marge), John (Pat), and his lifelong friend Dennis Kildea (Joyce), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
His life will be celebrated on October 1 st , and 2 nd.
Viewings will be held at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY 11783 (2 Traffic Lts East of Rte. 135) on Thursday October 1st from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM.
A Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Friday October 2nd at 10:45 AM. The church is located at 855 Carmens Road, Massapequa Park 11762.
