- THE ANTONICK FAMILY

ANTONICK – Henry J., a resident of Massapequa for 64 years, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the age of 99. Henry is survived by daughters Karen Antonick Commella and Lauren Antonick Hall; sisters Helen Van Savage and Dorothy Antoniuk; four grandchildren Michael Steigerwald (Courtney), Scott Steigerwald (Ivonne), Adam Commella (Amanda) and Caitlin Commella; seven great grandchildren Barrett, Mason, Gracie, Asa, Bryan, Issabella Steigerwald and Charlotte Commella; two nieces and two nephews. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen Wirzberger Antonick; his mother Helen Frask Antoniuk and his father Felix Antoniuk.

Henry was born on November 28, 1920 in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, and grew up in the Bronx neighborhood known as Highbridge near University Ave and Summit Ave. On July 13, 1947, he married his wife, Helen, and was a devoted husband for over 50 years, until her death in 1999.

Henry was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Force, in the lessor-known China-Burma-India Theater, maintaining C-47 and B-25 aircrafts that supported US operations against the Japanese. He also served a full career in the US Postal Service at JFK Airport in New York City.

He was proud of his Polish heritage, his Bronx upbringing and had a love for his family that cannot be replicated. Until the day he died, Henry routinely drove an hour away, every Sunday, to visit his daughter Lauren. He also walked every day to visit his friends at Starbucks and at the Massapequa Mall.

Henry will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who appreciated his character, kindness and perseverance.

Reposing Thursday 3-6 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford. (2 Traffic Lts. East of Rte. 135). Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10 AM at St. William the Abbot R.C. Church, Seaford. Interment to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
