Carley, George J. ,Massapequa, NY, on August 4, 2012 at the age of 83, after a four year battle with lung cancer. Beloved husband of Harriet Carley for 63 years. George is survived by his sister Jane McGarvey (Joseph) and many cousins including Auxiliary Bishop Dennis J. Madden of Baltimore, Maryland. George was preceded in death by his loving parents George and Jane Carley, Katherine Sofarelli (Pete) and Jane Havel (Alfred). Loving father of June Mellinger (Stephen), George (Suzanne), Wayne (Jane) and Brian. Cherished grandfather to Robert, Christopher, Gregory, April and Suzanne. Devoted great grandfather to Marissa, Tyler, Gladys, Elizabeth, William, Alex and Katherine. A 63 year resident of Massapequa, NY and a lifelong , award winning car and airplane model builder as well as an avid NASCAR fan. Loyal gold card member of Bricklayer’s Local 30-1 where he served as treasurer for many years and Teamster’s Local 282 as a driver in the heavy construction industry as well as a member of their retiree’s club. George was also the Vice-President of B.C. Fiberglass. George supported many social activities on Long Island including the Amerind’s of Massapequa Park, Massapequa Chum Club and the Biltmore Beach Club. A lifelong member of the Aeronautical Model Association, George was a member of the Long Island Gas Monkeys as a youth and the Meroke Club in retirement. George will be remembered as a friend to many.
