Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Smith

December 15, 1945 — July 2, 2022

Massapequa

Elizabeth (Betty) Smith passed away on July 2, 2022. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 15, 1945. She moved with her family to Massapequa when she was fifteen and lived in Massapequa the rest of her life.

Betty is survived by her children, Franklin “Buddy” (Colleen) Smith and Christine (Craig) Penet. She was predeceased by her youngest son James. They shared a very special bond and she was his devoted caregiver. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren; Kimberly, Franky, Lindsey and Brady. They brought her so much happiness and she was so proud of each of them. She is also survived by her sisters, Lucille Murphy and Janet Betz, her sister in law Evelyn DeNucci and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Jimmy.

Betty worked for many years as an automotive biller. When she wasn’t working she could be found at the beach or sitting on her side patio admiring her plants and flowers. She loved cooking, gardening, playing cards, grocery shopping and cheering on the Jets during football season. Betty had many special friendships and she looked forward to her social gatherings with “the girls”.

We wanted to say a special thank you to the Tralongo family- Frank, Geri, Brian and Andrew. They were not just Mom’s neighbors, but her second family. They enriched her life and were always there for her. Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation we have for all they have done.

Betty was full of life and her presence will be missed by so many. Rest In Peace Mom / Nanny. We Love You.
