FORD – Eileen Mary, on March 25, 2019, of Seaford. Beloved wife of the late Arthur E. Ford, Sr. Devoted daughter of the late Martin & Agnes Spelman. Loving mother of Arthur (Debbie), the late Edward, Betty, Richard, Eileen Mary, Martin (Kathryn), Kathleen, Kevin Ford, and Demond. Dear sister of Sr. Joan of Arc, “Angela Spelman”, and the late Irene Spelman. Cherished grandmother of Sarah Irene and Katie Rose. Eileen was a dedicated mother and nurse. She worked in the neonatal unit at Nassau County Medical Center for 30 years caring for the most fragile among us. She worked private duty to pay for college tuition for her children so they could graduate without student loans. In her retirement, and after having raised six children, she was a foster mother to over 20 individuals, from newborns to 18 years old. She felt the need to protect the most fragile, and in 1987 and 1991 she made the decision to bless the family with Kevin and Demond, both of whom became a blessing to the entire family and world. Her wisdom was unconventional and practical, and she shared it with anyone who would listen, whether she knew them or not. Heaven is a better place to have received her grace. She is greatly loved and will be missed. Reposing Friday, 3/29, 2-5 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford (2 Traffic Lts. East of Rte. 135) Mass Saturday, 3/30, 9:00 AM sharp at St. William the Abbot RC Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., Seaford. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following charitable organizations serving the needs of the most vulnerable around us. This was Mom’s passion.
Camp Loyaltown, Hunter, NY
www.camployaltown.org - WAYS TO GIVE LINK – For 18 years Mom’s son, Demond, has attended this respite camp in Hunter, NY. The camp helps campers of all intellectual and developmental “abilities” discover independence while experiencing the joys of friendship, fun and personal achievement free from challenges they face daily. Demond loves going to this camp, and starts talking about it in early spring – “I go to Camp Loyaltown!” The staff looks forward to seeing him every year, as he is very entertaining. Donations will provide opportunities for others to attend this camp to experience all it has to offer.
