Edwina A. von Runnen of North Bellmore, NY peacefully passed away on April 7, 2021 at the age of 90. She lived a joy-filled life centered on her family and faith.

Edwina was born on June 13, 1930 in Rockaway Beach, Queens NY to Joseph and Anita McCarthy. She grew up there with her six siblings: Marion Hartnett, Nancy Rankin, Joseph McCarthy, Helen Kelly, Patricia Cantwell, and John McCarthy.

On October 12, 1952, she married Fred von Runnen at St. Rose of Lima RC Church in Rockaway Beach, NY. They began their life together in North Bellmore, NY where she lived the next 68 years. Edwina worked at New York Telephone Company/Verizon for 41 years prior to retiring.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren attending their many sports events, musical concerts and award ceremonies. Edwina loved the ocean and basking in the sun. She enjoyed traveling and visiting new places.   Prior to the creation of the QVC channel, Edwina enjoyed shopping at local malls and stores. She was a loyal viewer of Fox News and Fox Business, keeping her up to date on current events. She was a faithful Catholic, devoted to saying The Chaplet of Divine Mercy and The Rosary.

Edwina is loved and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Fred, and daughter, Celeste Marie.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Weber (Fred), Anita, and Fred (Sandy), and her grandchildren, Jennifer Weber-Cohen, Eric Weber, Kaitlyn, Brendan, and Logan von Runnen.

A wake service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY 11783. (2 Traffic Lts. East of Rte. 135) A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 10, 2021 at St. Frances de Chantal in Wantagh, NY at 9:30 AM and will be followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale NY.
