SEAFORD, NY  — Edwin John Boden Senior, 81, died in his home Saturday morning, April 11, 2020, surrounded  by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Susanne (Slator) Boden, as well as his children, Edwin John Boden (Darlene), daughter Denise Boden, son Andrew Boden (Stephanie), and daughter Kathleen Haug (Kevin).

Ed was a proud grandfather to his eight cherished grandchildren, Eddie, Brian, Lincoln, Emily, Julianna, Jake, Meghan and Aidan and could often be seen pulling up in his red convertible to baseball, basketball, or softball games as well as dance recitals. Ed and his convertible were also fixtures in the Seaford High School homecoming parade. For many years,  Ed and Sue chaperoned countless Seaford band events and trips.

Ed was the youngest of 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Anne Riggs and preceded in death by his siblings Frank (Marion), Mary (John), Dorothy (Frank), Arthur (Patricia), Catherine (George), Joseph (Angie) and Margaret (Richard). He was affectionately known as “Uncle Eddie” to 38 nieces and nephews and 84 grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, he spent many summers with his family in Keansburg, NJ. He met his wife Susanne in 1955 and moved to Massapequa in 1964. They eventually landed in Seaford in 1969 where they raised their family and became a staple in the Seaford community.

In recent years, Ed and Sue spent many winters in Florida with Sue’s brother, Ed’s dear friend, Bill and wife Linda and their families. Ed              also enjoyed his brothers-in-law Michael (Pat) and Richard (predeceased).

Ed was an avid golfer and played softball with many members of his family and friends in the Seaford Mens’ Softball League.

Ed was well known for his commitment to CYO sports. He impacted countless lives through his passion for coaching basketball, baseball, softball and football.

A dedicated employee of the NYC Board of Education, Ed worked as a custodian engineer for 37 years. He was also a proud member               of the local 891 union.

Ed  had a long-standing relationship with God that was made even more special by his nephew, St. William the Abbott           Pastor Joseph Fitzgerald. And was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Ed’s favorite organizations. St. William the Abbott Church, Seaford 9/11 Memorial                 Committee, Camp Anchor, Seaford Lion’s Club , or Karen’s Hope.
