Cheryl Marie Cavaco

(1969-2025)

Cheryl M. Cavaco, 56, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025 surrounded by lots of love and laughs. She was born in Massapequa NY, and resided in Fort Plain NY. Mother to Brooke Cavaco. Daughter to Theresa L. Schmidt and recently late Fred T. Schmidt. Sister to four beautiful siblings, Catherine Schmidt-Pieper, Christopher Schmidt, Fred Schmidt and Valerie Schmidt, and she was a wonderful aunt to Gianna Schmidt, Christopher Schmidt, Haley Schmidt, Frankie Schmidt, Alyssa Schmidt, Honore Cavaco, John Cavaco, Matthew Cavaco, Kaylee Duffy, Jimmy Duffy, and Colin Duffy. Cheryl M. Cavaco was the brightest light in every room she stepped into and always knew how to have a good laugh. She was also very stubborn and to the point in the best way, as many of us may know her as Dr. Cheryl since she would research over and over and come back with a 15 page report. She was the best advice giver- but God help us all if we didn’t take it; that’s where Cheryl Stubborn Cavaco would come into full effect. She is also such a giver and spoiled anyone she could - family, friends, even down to her beloved pets. Her ability to fatten up her animals with love and treats was like no other! One of her favorite songs to sing was “You can’t always get what you want” by The Rolling Stones, as she believed life isn’t about the materialistic stuff; rather what you can make of it. She loved everything to do with outdoors - hiking, camping, white water rafting (where we almost didn’t make it)... But rain or shine you can bet she was busy. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you good stories like standing in the rain at jazz fest but still having the time of her life, or going camping in the middle of winter. She always knew how to make good out of the bad. She was an uplifting soul and so creative. She was a go-getter from day one, with lots of stories to share about helping with her dad’s business as a little girl, to funny things like getting banned from Toys-R-Us and crashing boats in the water. She has so many memories surrounding her that I know she, and everyone, will carry on forever. One of her favorite quotes, that fully carries her values is “What is the use of living if it not be to strive for noble causes and to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live in it after we are gone?” She was an angel in life, and now for eternity. She will forever be loved and cherished and deeply missed by every heart she’s come across, even if only for a second.
