Cecilia T. Eighmey

June 21, 1932 — January 25, 2023

Ridge

Cecilia, best known as Ceil to friends & family, was born in Brooklyn in 1932. She was the second eldest of four children. She met Ed, the love of her life, at 18 years old and they married each other in 1952. They raised three sons who adored their parents as did their wives. Ceil worked full-time as a clerical employee during most of her children's youth to help support the family. Her sons bore them five grandchildren who loved spending time with Grandma. She had a way of bonding with all she met and was a selfless, giving individual always placing the other person first. She was a strong but compassionate woman whose faith in God was severely tested when Gary, her middle son, fell ill with cancer & succumbed in 2002. She was the rock that kept the rest of us going, especially her husband. Ed passed in 2010 after 57 years of marriage and following 2.5 years in a nursing home. She traveled 45 miles round-trip to be with him each day. Her devotion and love surprised no one. In 2012 she became a great grandmother and had eight more through the remaining years of her life. Whilst she will not meet him in this realm, one of her grandsons & his wife informed her two weeks ago at her bedside that "GG" was going to have another great grandson. Her broad, engaging smile once again lit up the room. She loved spending time with her family and they often enjoyed her great-tasting meals, especially during the holidays. Always neat & organized, as the family expanded, she began having the family draw numbers to determine who'd make their plate first. She became a friend to her daughters-in-law and grandchildren, as well as countless other family members who greatly valued her sage advice and her loving spirit. She approached life with an unyielding work ethic and great sense of humor. She was, for many, a wonderful role model who never looked down on people and always tried to build them up. Her friends and family have often commented they are significantly better for having known this special person who God brought into their lives.  Cecilia will be resposing Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Charles G. Schmitt Funeral Home, Inc., 3863 Merrick Rd., Seaford, NY 11783 (2 Traffic Lts.
