Catherine was born on July 8, 1927, to Catherine and Frank Winiarski. She was the 5th of 11 children. She grew up in Corona NY and attended Our Lady of Sorrows School where she played the fife and was the Drum Majorette. She spoke often of her memories of, and deep connection to, Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Faith remained important to her throughout her life.
Catherine married her beloved Walter on September 18, 1948. They moved to Seaford in 1950 and had 7 children before his death in 1964.
Catherine was a parishioner of St. William the Abbott Church in Seaford for 73 years. She served as an Extraordinary Minister, was very active in the Rosary Society, wrote for The Abbey, was part of the Ministry of Consolation, worked tirelessly for the Annual Festival, and was a great supporter of the Ursuline nuns. She both worked and volunteered at St. William the Abbott for many years and all 7 of her children attended and graduated from there. Catherine worked for the Diocese of Rockville Centre at Holy Rood Cemetery and retired in 1996.
Catherine is preceded in death by her children Thomas (Julie) and William (Laurel) and survived by her children Geraldine (Bob Tischer), Anne (Chip Schmitt), Andrew (Camille Koster), Kath (Charlie Steenbuck), and Marian (Greg Ford). She had 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her beloved sister Joan Winiarski, and loving brothers Robert and Richard, and preceded in death by brothers Edward, Francis, Albert, and Thomas, and sisters Anne, Margaret and Hattie.
Catherine had a great love of God, Family, and Country. She loved anything chocolate, especially brownies, Milky Ways, and brown bonnets. The only thing that made her face light up more was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
“Bye for now.”
