Arturo G. Sterling, 96, died on March 23rd, 2022, at his home in Seaford, New York, accompanied by his loving wife, Doris. A caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a devout Roman Catholic who practiced the faith well into his later years. His Patron Saint’s Day is September 1st. He was born on October 9th, 1925 in Havana, Cuba, to Olga and Gustavo Sterling, who was a professor at the University of Havana. He was raised in Havana and lived there until 1959. He then became a citizen of the U.S. during the Castro regime. Arturo was considered to be one of the most revered traders in global commodities and sugar business. He worked as a partner and executive at Czarnikow-Rionda––one of North America’s largest sugar brokers––for over 50 years. He was honored to be a New Yorker. An avid tennis player, and a lifelong fan of the sport, Arturo was a member of the iconic Tennisport Club for over 40 years. A warmhearted man to his core, he leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love. He is survived by his daughter, Lourdes Pedroso and her husband Jorge of Coral Gables, FL, and his stepdaughters, Linda Kenny and her husband Peter of Denver, CO, and Doris Rose Piazza and her husband Christopher of Seaford, NY; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Olga Fanjul. A private memorial mass will be held on March 29th, 2022 at St. William the Abbot Parish in Seaford, NY.
